Maurer Making Waves in Germany

Published on Thursday, May 19, 2011 in General

Rising young showjumping star, New Zealander Danielle Maurer is making an impact on the German showjumping scene. Having aced the New Zealand young rider series for the second year on the trot, the 19-year-old headed to Europe to base with Helena Weinberg and her husband Tim Stormanns.

A couple of shows down the track and she's picking up excellent results, including the leading young rider (under 21) award at a five day national show in Eschweiler, hosted by the stable she is training at.

During the show, which received more than 2000 entries, Maurer (Auckland) jumped clear in seven of the 12 classes she competed in – spanning style classes for the youngsters through to 1.4m and grand prix – with just the odd rail here and there in the rest. Her leading young rider award was decided on accumulated points.

“It was pretty exciting,” says Maurer.

Aboard six-year-old mare Fromecs Centaya, Maurer (pictured) was second in the 1.25m speed class along with other placings in style classes, while on Capitol Rouge she was fourth in the speed class and other placings.

Previously she picked up a fifth aboard Chakira in the 1.2m at a smaller show in Pruem.
