Tom McDermott and SL Limerick were decisive winners of the Sydney Summer Classic World Cup on Sunday, claiming victory in the final chapter of the 2013 Australian League with two clear rounds.

Course designer Leopoldo Palacios of Venezuela presented the 16 strong field with a difficult track which proved a tough test and the next two best performing combinations -  David Goodwin and Warrego Jericho and Tim Clarke and Caltango - each accumulated 12 jumping penalties over the two rounds.

With Goodwin in front on time in the second round, he snatched the runner-up position ahead of Clarke and his mare.

McDermott was pleased to finish the season on a high.

"I'm really happy with Limerick today. He's gone well all year. He won the Showcase of Showjumping Grand Prix as well as the Shepparton World Cup and now this event. I'm really glad to win here today," McDermott said.

While the day belonged to McDermott, season honours go to Australian Show Jumping Champion Jamie Kermond, who in addition to claiming the national show jumping crown was also the leading rider of the Australian League for 2013.

Kermond's lead over the field was so great he was declared the overall series champion following last weekend's Sale World Cup but it was a different story in the race for the best performed horse of the season with three in the mix for the Golden Grand Award (Stardom, Colthaga and Caltango) leading into Sunday's finale.

Clarke and Caltango's third place in Sunday's Summer Classic WC catapulted them into the prize position ahead of Billy Raymont's Stardom and Jamie Kermond's Colthaga.

"She's a super little mare, she loves to jump and it's been a wonderful season. I'm very lucky to have her.

"It's a very prestigious award to win and I'm pleased to be receiving it," Clarke said upon accepting the Ted Dwyer memorial trophy which is presented to the owner of the Golden Grand. Tim co-owns the horse with wife Ingrid.

The results for the overall series ended exactly as they finished in 2011 with Kermond finishing ahead of Billy Raymont in second and Tim Clarke in third. Back then Clarke's mare Caltango was also the best performed horse of the season.

Kermond has now earned a start in the 2013/14 FEI World Cup Final in Lyon.
