McKayla Greene Appeal Raises $40,000

In April Horsezone hosted an online fundraising auction of several items including a service to thoroughbred sires Lope De Vega and Dane Shadow, a Tour of Darley, Kelvinside for an exclusive Stallion Parade of the famous three generations Octagonal, Lonhro and Denman, plus a print, signed by Wayne Bennett, of the 2010 NRL Premiership winning St George Dragons team.

The proceeds from this auction, which ended on 13 May all went towards helping McKayla Greene, who was born with a rare and debilitating chromosome condition called Potocki Lupski syndrome.  There are only 50 people in the world diagnosed with this disorder.

There was also a Fundraising Golf Day and auction of memorabilia organised by the kind and dedicated people who instigated the auction and were determined to raise funds to help a little girl in need

Symptoms of Potocki Lupski syndrome include learning disabilities, poor muscle tone, feeding and digestion difficulties, speech delay, sleep apnea, autism and epilepsy.  There is no cure, however, physio, speech and occupational therapies can help.  It is still unknown if McKayla will ever walk, talk or be able to eat or swallow.  She is currently fed through a tube.

At the time of the fund raising auction and golf day, organisers advised, "McKayla requires specialised care and therapies and a very structured routine to help her develop.  She needs a specially designed pram, high chair, car seat, feeding equipment, sleep system, bath equipment, bed... the list goes on.  These items are all very expensive - the pram alone is $10,000."

Recently we heard from John Curtis, who contacted us on behalf of McKayla's family and friends, to advise that the golf day and auction of memorabilia, along with the on-line auction of items listed above and various donations, resulted in just over $40,000 being raised to assist McKayla and her mum Jenny!

John said, "We are extremely grateful for the tremendous work Horsezone did to help us out with this appeal. Without your assistance and professionalism, we would not have been able to help McKayla and Jenny in such a positive way. Please also pass on our appreciation to anyone else who assisted you with the on-line auction."

Here at Horsezone we are only too pleased to have been able to help promote the auction and golf day and are thrilled with the fund raising results, which has meant that the specially designed equipment could be purchased for McKayla.

Thank you also to all the Horsezone subscribers who supported this very worth cause!
