Melbourne International Horse Trials to host Oceania Young Rider competition
Together with a record AU$50,000 prizepool, the Melbourne International Horse Trials (MIHT) has announced it will host an Oceania competition for Young Riders as part of the CCI** class at this year’s event, set to take place over the Queen’s Birthday weekend (6-9 June) at the purpose built Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre.
Formerly known as the Trans-Tasman competition, the Oceania event for Young Riders will see riders representing Australia and New Zealand battle it out over the three phases of competition, as Australia’s team members look for the homeground advantage following New Zealand’s victory in the past three outings (2009, 2010 and 2012).
The Oceania Eventing competition for Young Riders is a welcome addition to the new look event, which will see the dressage and showjumping phases moved outdoors to a purpose built ampitheatre with spectator stands for eventgoers.
Event director, Michael Hands said the Oceania Eventing competition for Young Riders will complement an exciting schedule of activities throughout this year’s MIHT.
“The MIHT looks forward to welcoming New Zealand’s next generation of talent to be part of a competition that is the oldest of its kind in the southern hemipshere.
“We are thrilled to be able to provide eventgoers an opportunity to enjoy international quality competition over the Queen’s Birthday weekend at Werrribee Park,” Mr Hands said.
