Melbourne Saddles Up for 2011 Paspaley Polo in the City
The highly anticipated Paspaley Polo in the City returns to Albert Park this year on Saturday 3rd December. Now in its sixth consecutive year, the Paspaley Polo in the City (PITC) series has been bringing the sport of polo to the people of Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane.
PITC is about eradicating the perception that polo is only played by royalty and showcasing Australia’s wide contingent of very talented polo sportsmen.
Once merely the back-drop for champagne parties and the domain of the elite, polo is now becoming a veritable sport. In countries like Argentina, it is regarded as the second most popular sport to soccer, with the Argentine Open, the largest professional polo tournament in the world, attracting in excess of 100,000 spectators over its duration. In London the inaugural Polo in the Park attracted in excess of 28,000 spectators at Hurlingham Park in 2009.
Under the auspices of new management since 2010, the Albert Park installment of the PITC series will continue to raise standards in hospitality and entertainment. The series itself now attracts over 10,000 corporate guests and spectators across Australia and is growing each year. Polo across Australia is also gaining traction with many opting for the subtle and sophisticated presentation of polo over more traditional racing events.
Polo Enterprises Australia Pty Limited (PEA) was incorporated in 2005 by Melbourne’s own Ruki Baillieu, Australia’s highest ranked polo professional and one of the highest ranked international professionals, and Janek Gazecki, a former lawyer, polo journalist and amateur polo player.
PEA is engaged in a variety of business activities related to polo, ranging from breeding, training and selling polo ponies, to staging polo events and consulting in relation to the development of a $12 million polo estate in Argentina.
Corporate Marquee hospitality is available upon request, and Coopers Bar tickets will be available online from Ticketmaster. Tickets to the highly coveted Paspaley VIP Marquee are by invitation only.
