As usual the hardworking members of the Mt Gambier Showjumping club ran an outstanding festival over the Easter break.
The unique and picturesque setting, in a popular tourist destination, make this show one not to be missed.
Competitors travelled from as far as Western Australia, Adelaide and Gippsland.
This was the 32nd time the show has been held.
With great weather, outstanding footing, excellent equipment and challenging tracks from course designer John Wootten the velodrome was the perfect setting for a great event.
The final day started with the Horsezone 110cm won by local rider Brianna Devine riding Kahmun Park Gangster followed by the Horsezone 120cm won my Tim Haworth riding Romsey
Tori Stuckey from Plenty rode her home bred Mayfield Noble to win the very tough Blue Lake Stakes 1.30 futurity class sponsored by the District Council of Grant. The City of Mt Gambier 1.40 championship was won by Jeff Bloomfield from South Australia riding Pilot narrowly beating Jess Barton from Little River riding Lamaz.
After gaining some sponsorship the club added an amateur series to its programme which was very well supported. These classes are for people not competing over 1.20 m during the show and attracted good numbers.
Kristin White from Whittlesea riding Hamlet won the first amateur class in an exciting jump off.
The series however was a tussle between father and daughter, but was won by Mortlake farmer Tim Howarth riding Romsey with Kristy Howarth 2 nd riding Jingella Delta. Howarth's efforts were rewarded with a beautiful garland and rug, not to mention some great prize money.
Volador, owned by Barton Equine from Little River, but ridden by Scot Barclay dominated the 1.30 classes winning both. Barclay was strongly tipped to win the futurity but had to be satisfied with second place.
14yr old Kate Crauford from Mt Gambier had a great show on new mount Master Darnley winning two classes. Crauford was also well placed on SL Itza worry.
Robyn Todd from Seville won the 1.20m class riding Rodeo Drive LC. Todd went on to place in the futurity.
The welcome stakes was won by Seymour school teacher Robyn Keam riding the home bred Keil Park Cello.
