The 2013 Pony Club NSW State Jumping Equitation Championships to be held at the Mudgee Rural Education Centre, Mudgee on the 17-19 May is rapidly approaching.

The State Jumping Equitation Championships is an annual event held at a different location every year and hosted by a local pony club zone. This year’s event is hosted by Zone 6, who are working very hard to have great facilities and arenas for the championships and to have everything running smoothly for the 190 competitors expected to attend.

Zone 6 have had 16 riders qualify for the championships and have set a new zone record having at least one rider from each club in the zone qualify. In the Under 13 age group the riders are; Megan Dickinson (Gulgong), Millie Malone (Mudgee), Bridie Mulligan (Mudgee), Gabrielle Mills (Mudgee) and Megan Seis (Dunedoo). In the 13-U15 age group; Mikayla Wilkinson (Rylstone), Annalise Wilson (Mudgee) and Liam Mulligan (Mudgee). In the 15-U17 age group; Ryan Martin (Mudgee) and Samantha Perring (Hargraves/Triamble). 17-U25 (Associate) age group; Savannah Mealing (Mudgee), Cassandra McCarroll (Mudgee), Alexandra Henderson (Coolah), Cara Wilson (Mudgee), Kirralee Martin (Mudgee) and Rebecca Croake (retired, injured horse).

The riders had to qualify for the championships by competing at Pony Club Jumping Equitation events throughout the year as well as attending Rally Days to enable them to participate. Their preparation for the event includes Equitation clinics, Equitation Showjumping and Showjumping competitions, rally days as well as many hours on their own working and training their horses.

Riders will be competing across four classes and will be judged both on their riding style and control of the horse whilst jumping.

Zone 6 has a very strong team this year, in fact, the most riders to ever qualify, and each rider will do their best to excel in their individual events.

Zone 6 expects to provide a quality competition with some fantastic display and unique feature jumps providing some challenging courses. A canteen will be running all three days with something for everyone. Mudgee’s woodfired Pizza man will be at the site for dinner on Saturday night so don’t forget to pre order. The venue has great camping facilities and a big communal fire will keep us all toasty and warm as there will be no smaller camp fires by order of AREC Management.

The championship will commence Saturday, 18 May from 8:30 and conclude Sunday afternoon with the mounted presentation ceremony. Entry is free and spectators will be very welcome so come along and watch some brilliant riders in action. Entry to the arenas will be from Henry Lawson Drive.

The next state event is the State Showjumping Championships which is to be held at Bathurst Showgrounds, Bathurst from the 6-7th July 2013.

The Pony Club NSW State Jumping Equitation Championships are supported by Sport and Recreation a division of Communities NSW, Flametree Inc State Championship rug sponsor, Mitavite official feed partner, as well as other local sponsors.
