Jan Tops has paid $12.33 million for 10-year-old gelding Palloubet d'Halong for his wife Edwina Tops-Alexander to ride, reports weeklytimesnow.com.au

Tops-Alexander's diminutive superstar Itot du Château that has carried her to so many great wins is 17-years-old and will probably now go into a well-earned retirement.

With the World Equestrian Games to be held in Normandy, France next year, Tops-Alexander, who has been the linch-pin of the Australian showjumping team was in need of a super horse to replace him.

There had been a great deal of rumblings around the five star shows in Europe that "somebody" was offering big money for the Swiss owned horse but nobody could find out who the "somebody" was. It turned out that there were actually several vying for the top gelding.

I understand she needs a super horse but $12 million on one horse?!?!?!?!?! It is a little over the top. I do wish her all the best!
