Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Heads to the Polo
Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy is pleased to announce a brand new fundraising initiative – A Day at the Polo. The event is being hosted in conjunction with the Windsor Polo Club, on Sunday 30 October 2011.
Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Australia is a not-for-profit organisation providing internationally recognised music therapy. Registered Music Therapists use the power of music in live and interactive clinical sessions to help people cope with the struggles of living with a wide range of needs. These include children and adults with physical and intellectual disabilities, autism, trauma, illness, dementia, behavioural disorders and learning difficulties.
“We are thrilled to be working with the Windsor Polo Club on this initiative,” said Nordoff-Robbins’ Chief Executive Officer, Ms Jillian Ritherdon. “Club President, Mr John Wayland was immediately interested in knowing more about the charity when we met at a Hawkesbury Chamber of Commerce function earlier this year. His enthusiasm for our work soon evolved into a fundraising concept and we are excited to be making this a reality.”
“Polo is a fascinating sport to watch, but something that a lot of people think is off limits to them. This event is all about making the game accessible to all whilst raising money for the work we do.”
“I am a passionate music enthusiast,” said Club Chairman, Mr John Wayland, “and also very interested in music and the mind. So much so, I am actually writing a book on the topic. The work that Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy is doing is truly changing lives. We are fortunate to have such a service on our doorstep, and I am very happy to be supporting their cause.”
“A Day at the Polo” will run from 10.30am – 4.30pm at the Windsor Polo Club. Tickets are currently on sale for $85 (adults) and $15 (children under 12 years/under 2 years are free). Ticket price includes your entry into the Windsor Polo Club, lunch, parking and activities being organised for guests on the day. Polo Ambassadors will be on hand to explain the game and potentially introduce guests to the players.
Ms Ritherdon concluded by saying that, “we look forward to hosting this elite but down-to-earth family day out, and hope that those curious about Polo, lovers of horses, locals to Penrith and the Hawkesbury and of course supporters of Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy will join us for the day.”
