Olympic Fundraiser for Kiwi Dressage Rider

Published on Saturday, September 24, 2011 in General

Former top jockey Lance O'Sullivan is the guest speaker for a fundraiser for dressage rider Shiwon Green (pictured), who has been selected to represent New Zealand at an Olympic team Qualifying event in Sydney next month.

Green, a mother of two and a part-time work as an Emergency Department nurse, also runs a small competition and training barn.

She has brought her top horse, Gosh, a crossbred gelding, up through the grades from novice to Grand Prix.

She is also the equestrian ambassador for 'THiNK' - The Head Injury Network for Kiwis, and is among the very few top-level riders to use a safety helmet rather than a top hat in competition.

Green signed up with THiNK at the beginning of the year, and wore a safety helmet in competition throughout the season.

The fund-raising event and auction is at Smith & McKenzie, in Chartwell, Hamilton, on October 6, and about 200 guests are expected.

The evening will be compered by Trackside celebrity Steve Davis, who is also the auctioneer.

Tickets: $30
