Olympic Games Qualifying Round part of 2015 Horses in Action

FEI World Cup Qualifier competitors at the Royal Melbourne Show Horses in Action program will put their best foot forward for a berth at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games with this year’s event also a qualifying round in selection for the Australian team.  

The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV) has opened entries for the 2015 Horses in Action program, with competition events scheduled from Saturday 19 September to Tuesday 29 September at Melbourne Showgrounds.

There’s nothing like winning a prestigious blue ribbon in the Horses in Action program at the Royal Melbourne Show, which showcases Australia’s best horses and riders across more than 250 classes and offers more than $80,000 in prize money and trophies.

It is anticipated that the 2015 Royal Melbourne Show Horses in Action program will attract more than 2,500 entries, with horses and riders coming from all over Australia to compete.

Local and interstate experts will judge the competition including:

Open Hacks- Lyndy Sutton (Vic)

Open Galloways- Julie Lloyd (SA)

Show Hunter Hacks and Galloways - Lee Halpin-Bishop (NSW)

Intermediate Riding-  Laura Widdowson (QLD)

Pope Cup- Marg Lucas (Vic), Genevieve Everingham (NSW), Lisa Smith (Vic)

The coveted Garryowen Equestrienne Turnout is in its 81st year and is one of Australia’s most prestigious showing events for female riders, offering more than $7500 in prize money and prizes.

RASV CEO Mark O’Sullivan said “RASV is committed to enhancing the event experience each year for competitors who participate in the Royal Melbourne Show Horses in Action program.

“The inclusion of the qualifying round for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games team, adding to the existing prestigious events within the Horses in Action program, is testament to the high standard of participants the competition receives every year,” said Mr O’Sullivan.

Entries close on Friday 1 June, with entries to Showjumping open until Friday 26 June and Hunting until Monday 3 August
