Further to a previous news story published on Horsezone regarding the rescue of horses and donkey's in the Middle East, Zvika and the Pegasus Project are continuing their important work.
WSPA's ongoing campaign to raise funds to assist Pegasus has been successful as more animals are being rescued. An example of Pegasus' life saving work was Freddie. When Zvika received a call from the local police in Israel about a sick donkey he immediately went to investigate. Poor Freddie was not only malnourished and dirty from years of overwork. He was also tied to a cart by all kinds of makeshift chains and had a big, bleeding wound on his back from a harness. Thanks to WSPA supporters, Zvika was able to take Freddie straight to the sanctuary (As soon as they could convince this 'stubborn mule' to climb into the horse trailer!) Now, Freddie is happy and healthy and particularly likes to rub his nose against anyone who comes close enough. Zvika says, "If you turn your back on him, you get a massage that would put a masseuse to shame."
This is real life-saving work, and it's getting noticed. In fact, at a recent National Police Conference, Pegasus recently received a prestigious award of commendation for their services to the state of Israel. Of course, Zvika couldn't stay at the ceremony because he got an emergency call about a donkey that needed rescuing and animal welfare is always his number one priority!
