Opportunity for Aussies to Compete at NZ'S Horse of the Year

Equestrian Australia has received an invitation for riders to compete at the Horse of the Year show in Hastings, in the North Island of New Zealand, from 15 - 20 March.

The New Zealand Horse of the Year Show is an International event, and therefore all riders wishing to participate as part of the team or as an indiviual, need to nominate to compete at this event through Equestrian Australia. A copy of the show schedule is attached and the website can be found below. 

The flagship class of the event for showjumpers is the NZ$40,000 Olympic Cup.

Nominations for the Teams Event

Equestrian Australia has received an invitation from the New Zealand Federation for a team of 4 rider/horse combinations to compete in an unofficial Nations Cup event to be held at the Horse of the Year Show in Hastings, New Zealand 15-20 March 2011.
The event will be run as part of the Silver Fern Stakes on Friday 20th March. The Silver Fern Stakes is a 1.50m class, therefore nominating combinations must have experience at 1.50m and higher. Equestrian Australia will be sending a Chef d’Equipe (Stephen Lamb) to accompany the team for the event.
Equestrian Australia are offering the four members selected onto the team AU$2500 towards travel expenses. IRT have provided a quote for the flight costs to New Zealand of approximately AU$7400 return; however EA recommends that all transport pricing is checked with IRT or an alternate carrier.
The invitation is extended for all riders to participate in the other classes being offered at The Horse of the Year show, one of Oceania’s premier equestrian events. The show’s full schedule is below.
Equestrian Australia would like to invite members to indicate their interest to compete at this competition in New Zealand. All interested combinations will need to complete the Expressions of Interest form.
The Show Organising Committee will provide the following:
 
  • Accommodation for team members
  • Stabling for team members
  • Entry fees for the Silver Fern Stakes class only.
The riders will be responsible for:
  • Return airfares to New Zealand (horse and rider)
  • Transport
  • All entries to other classes at the HOY
  • Insurance (The EA National Office can assist with this insurance)
The EA National office will provide administration support and a uniform for the selected riders.
