Over 200 riders and their horses from all over the State travelled to Parkes in central NSW to compete in the Pony Club NSW State Showriding Championships. The Championship was hosted by Zone 11 and held at Parkes Showground on the 5th and 6th of December.

Riders competed in a range of classes judged on both horse and rider to accumulate points to determine the Age Champion winners and Champion Zone. The Under 9 years Champion was awarded to Stacey McMaster from Peak Hill Pony Club, and Reserve Champion went to Ella Fin from The Oaks Pony Club. Ella Bourke from Matcham Valley Pony Club won the 9 and under 11 years Age Champion, with Darcey Eyb from Cudal taking out the Reserve Champion. The 11 and under 13 years age Champion was awarded to Lydia Alston from Rankin’s Springs Pony Club, and Tahnee Sullivan from Wingham Pony Club was declared Reserve Champion. Mackenzie Peterkin from Congarinni Pony Club took out her Age Champion for the second year in a row, with Teleah Lindsay from Berkeley Pony Club as Reserve Champion in the 13 and under 15 years age group. In the 15 and under 17 years age group, Sarah Olsen was awarded Age Champion from Hills District Pony Club, and Grace Daunt from Rankin’s Springs Pony Club took out the Reserve Champion. Sarah Pernice from Glenorie Pony Club won the 17 to 25 years Age Champion, with Tahlia Wells from Young Pony Club awarded Reserve Champion.

The Champion Zone was awarded to Zone 9 with riders Tahnee Sullivan, Dani Altham, Mackenzie Peterkin and Cara Shirley gaining the most points for their Zone.

The quality of riders was outstanding, making it a very difficult task for the judges who did an outstanding job in the very warm conditions over the weekend. For 13 & under 15 years Reserve Champion rider Teleah Lindsay, the long drive to Parkes was worth the wait.

“It took about 5 hours to get to Parkes and it was extremely hot, but the highlight of the event for me was just having fun and making sure everyone else did too.”

Teleah achieved great results riding “Bells Mountain Phoenix” and representing Zone 22 at the State Championship; “We all just wanted to have fun in the ring and at the end of the day I received the overall Reserve Champion for my age group.”

The Pony Club Association of NSW would like to congratulate everyone who took part in the State Showriding Championships, also to the parents, friends and families who showed support over the weekend. The Showriding Championships mark the last of the State Pony Club events for 2015, with our next event; The NSW State Camp taking place in the new year from the 3rd-8th January at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre.

The Pony Club NSW State Showriding Championships are supported by major sponsor Mitavite – Official Feed Partner, NSW Sport and Recreation & other local sponsors.
