Postcards from the Saddle: Calgary Stampede!

Published on Thursday, June 28, 2012 in Postcards from the saddle

Today, Julie McLaughlin - from Mudgeeraba Queensland - is jetting off on the trip of a lifetime to the 100th Calgary Stampede, being held 6-15 July in Canada. Julie will be sharing all her Canadian adventures with those of us not so fortunate, in Horsezone's Postcards from the Saddle.

This opportunity came about when organisers of the Calgary Stampede invited the 14th Mudgeeraba Light Horse Troop to perform as part of this year's event. Julie's husband, Peter, is a member of the Light Horse troop, which will be doing a one hour display each evening. Their display will show the  Aussie spirit and include a demonstration of Tent Pegging, using lances and swords.  Wild Deuce Ranch (www.wilddeuce.com) are kindly supplying the horses for the Troop to ride during the Stampede.

Julie, who is so excited about the trip, will be our Aussie-on-the-spot reporter, with access to all areas of the Stampede, which is celebrating 100 years of being 'the greatest outdoor show on earth'. We can't wait!
