Equestrian groups now have access to a brand new venue in Queensland that has one of Australia’s largest covered sand arenas and a serviced campground.

The Queensland State Equestrian Centre (QSEC), at Caboolture just north of Brisbane, officially opens on September 3 and is already taking bookings for future equestrian events.

Moreton Bay Regional Council, which built the centre, with funding assistance from the Australian and Queensland Governments, has created a venue with the potential to host international, national, state and elite championships as well as meeting local and regional equestrian needs.

Mayor Allan Sutherland said that to encourage equestrian use, QSEC was offering discounted introductory rates for  equestrian events booked before  30 April 2012 to be held before 1 December 2012, and the calendar was filling up fast .

“Our first scheduled equestrian event is the Nathan Horse Floats 2011 Queensland Dressage Championships on October 7 to 9,” Mayor Sutherland said.

“We’re also proud to announce that we’ve locked in a dressage masterclass presented by Greystone Australia with German International Grand Prix Coach, Rider and Trainer - Hubertus Hufendiek.”

The Mayor added that equestrian groups could hire the whole venue for a major event or choose to hire a meeting room or warm up arena, depending on the size of the function being hosted.

QSEC’s facilities include:

  • One of Australia’s largest covered sand arenas  - an 80 metre by 40 metre area with spectator seating, judges and commentators rooms and PA system
  • Warm up areas including a 60m x 20m sand warm up arena
  • Four all-weather, sand dressage arenas with covered viewing areas
  • 150 stables with rubber matting for added comfort
  • Eight wash bays
  • 48 camp sites with power and water access
  • Additional ‘informal’ camp sites
  • Large camping amenities block
  • Two meeting/training rooms
  • A licensed bar
