Racing for Christchurch Gala Dinner

Join the Auckland Racing Club at the 'Racing for Christchurch' Gala Dinner on Sunday 1st May to help raise much-needed funds for those affected by the Christchurch earthquake on 22nd February.

The Auckland Racing Club's goal is to raise $1,000,000 for the Racing for Christchurch Appeal Fund which the Club launched on 28th February. Special guests on the night include the Mayor of Christchurch - Bob Parker and the Minister for Racing/Civil Defence - John Carter.

The feature of the evening will be an auction of stallion services to some of the country's leading sires, with 100% of all proceeds donated directly to the Appeal Fund.

Tickets for the Racing for Christchurch Gala Dinner are $150pp including GST and include a three-course meal, beverages, live entertainment and the auction of stallion services and racing memorabilia.

Stallion services donated thus far have a total retail value of over $400,000 and include nominations to New Zealand's Champion Sire Zabeel, Starcraft, Pentire, Mastercraftsman, Rip Van Winkle, Darci Brahma, Keeper, Alamosa, Road to Rock, Perfectly Ready, Bachelor Duke, Postponed, Thewayyouare, Captain Rio, Thorn Park, Towkay, Any Suggestion, Nom de Jeu, Fully Fledged, Coats Choice and Zed.

Free Live Foal Guarantee insurance will be donated to the successful bidder of each service auctioned on the night.

There are also some fantastic auction items on offer including:

  • For those interested in racing memorabilia there's Black Caviar's colours from her Newmarket Handicap win at Flemington. These colours are framed, signed by her trainer Peter Moody and jockey Luke Nolan, and include a photograph of the win.
  • The de Gruchy family have kindly donated a sketch of their champion racehorse and broodmare Horlicks to be auctioned.
  • A generous package has been donated by Lime Country Thoroughbreds and includes six weeks breaking-in, six weeks spelling and six weeks pre-training. This can be used at any time over the next 24 months as a package or in sections and has a value of approximately $5,000.
  • Also on offer is a painting of the champion racehorse Carbine by equine artist Barbara Lewis; and
  • One night's accommodation in a luxurious suite including breakfast at Casa del Mare Boutique Bed & Breakfast in the Bay of Plenty.
