Rockhampton Women Being Flown To Brisbane Hospital After High Level Exposure to Hendra Virus
Published on Thursday, July 19, 2012 in General
A Rockhampton woman who received high level exposure to the potentially deadly Hendra virus has an anxious wait to find out if she has been infected.
Queensland Health authorities say they may offer the woman an experimental treatment.
Queensland's chief medical officer Dr Jeanette Young says the woman was one of three people exposed to the foal, which was on a property within five kilometres from a previous Hendra outbreak.
Dr Young says two other people - the property's second co-owner and the horse's treating vet - received low levels of exposure.
She says the woman is being flown to Brisbane's Princess Alexandra Hospital today to be assessed by experts.
We have our fingers crossed for her!
