Rio Olympic hopeful Shane Rose (CP Qualified) leads the Adelaide CCI4* at the 2015 Australian International Three Day Event after the Dressage phase.

With only 260 days to go until the start the eventing at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, Australia’s Olympic Eventing hopefuls will be out in force to impress selectors.

Rose and his mount CP Qualified were the standout performers on the first day, riding to a score of 42.10. They have a strong lead going intoSaturday’s influential cross country with the next nearest competitor Katja Weimann (VIC) and BP Flamboyant sitting on 49.10 penalties.

The battle for the minor positions is close with New South Wales rider Christine Bates and her mount Adelaide Hill on 49.40 penalties and Katie Roots riding Trevalgar II in fourth with 49.70.

Rose and Qualified are on familiar ground having placed first after the Dressage phase two years ago only to finish in seventh after knocking two rails in the Showjumping. Since then the Beijing silver medallist has been working hard and says the proof is on display every time his horse steps into the arena.

“If you took a photo of Qualified two years ago and compared it to him today you probably wouldn’t think he’s the same horse,” said Rose.

“He’s grown significantly in strength, he’s changed his shape, he gallops better, his jumping is considerably better and his performances over the past two years show that.

Rose has one eye on the prize and the other on a Rio Olympic Games berth and is confident in his ability this weekend.

“I’m confident he’s going to do a good job in the next couple of days if I can steer him around and help him do that.

Adelaide Olympian Megan Jones riding her three time Adelaide CCI4* bridesmaid Kirby Park Allofasudden is also in touch with the leaders, currently in eighth position with 52.80 penalties.

Thousands of fans are expected to flock Adelaide’s beautiful parklands to enjoy the Qantas Cross Country Day. Road closures on Road closures for Cross Country on Saturday will be in place from early Saturday with Bartels road and Wakefield Road closes at both ends at 5amon Saturday morning and re-opening to traffic again at 10pm Saturday night.

CCI2* action gets underway at 10am with the main event, the CCI4* to begin at 1:30pm.
