Saddleworld Young Rider Dressage Squads & Development Program 2015
By: Jan Smith/Equestrian Victoria
Equestrian Victoria has launched the Saddleworld Young Rider Dressage Squads & Development Program for 2015. This is an exciting initiative for young riders who are interested in Dressage, and who would like to take advantage of all that the Squads and Development Program will offer over the next twelve months.
For the first time the Development Program has been endorsed as an activity by HRCAV which means it will be open to HRCAV riders who are in the age group of 10 – 25 years.
Equestrian Victoria gratefully acknowledge Saddleworld, whose contribution has made the dream a reality, Equissage for their generous support, and a fantastic group of individuals and companies who supported the Auction held at the Dressage Festival in 2014, and the NCIS Australian Young Rider Dressage Championships in 2015.
Established young riders who are competing successfully at major events will be catered for as will those riders who are just starting to be interested in what correct training can do for their horse and for themselves. Leading young riders who have been part of the Committee that have developed the model include Morgan Duell & Stuart Archibald, both members of the Equestrian Australia National Youth Squad.
“I really value the opportunity and experience that belonging to a recognised Squad has brought to my career as a dressage rider and trainer and would like to help the upcoming crop of young dressage riders have a similar chance to learn from top coaches” Stuart said.
“When I first began attending Squad weekends I was a bit in awe of the older riders, but found that they were very happy to help people such as myself discover the benefits of correct training and athlete development.”
Coach coordinator for the Squads & Program, Jan Smith, also echoed Stuart’s views. “I believe that this is a great chance for riders to come together and form bonds with other riders, networks that will last a lifetime, and really benefit from working with leading coaches and trainers” Jan said.
All riders are welcome to apply to attend the four training weekends planned for the year.
