Saudi Arabia Could Lose Two Top Riders from Olympics Following Drugs Investigation
Published on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 in 2012 London
Saudi Arabia could be left riderless for the London 2012 Olympics, after spending tens of millions, because its two top showjumpers face doping bans this week.
Khaled Al Eid, the Sydney 2000 bronze medallist, and Abdullah Al Sharbatly, world silver medallist in 2010, will appear before International Equestrian Federation tribunals on Wednesday and Thursday, following positive tests at winter competitions reports Pippa Cuckson of www.telegraph.co.uk.
Al Eid’s ride, Vanhoeve, and Sharbatly’s Lobster 43 tested positive to the same two controversial anti-inflammatories, phenylbutazone and oxyphenbutazone, at World Cup qualifiers in Riyadh and Al Ain respectively.
