Saudia Arabia to Let Women Compete at Olympics
Published on Monday, June 25, 2012 in 2012 London
Saudi Arabia, where public sports events for women are banned, will allow females to compete in the Olympic Games for the first time.
The BBC quoted the Saudi embassy in London as saying its Olympic committee will "oversee participation of women athletes who can qualify".
Showjumper, Dalma Rushdi Malhas, didn't qualify for these Olympics, but is keen to work towards competing in future Olympics. Read the FEI report confirming that Dalma will not compete in London.
Dalma won a bronze medal at the 2010 Singapore Youth Olympics, riding Australian Paint Horse, Flash Top Hat (pictured), without having been nominated by her country, following an invitation from the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
