How does the class work?
In the morning competitors will ride a short Dressage test (of 3 star level movements). The results from the Dressage will seed the riders for the jumping and according to their position in the standings they start with seconds on the clock fir the jumping. The winning rider after the Dressage starts the jumping with 0 penalties (seconds) on the board. The second placed rider will start the jumping with 2 secs on the board and the 3rd best with 3 seconds on the board, and so on, if there a 14 horses in the class the rider in 14th place has 14 seconds on the clock before the jumping starts.
The jumping will be held in the afternoon. There is just one course, combining cross country (up to 2 star height) and show jumps (up to 3 star height). Riders start in reverse order. There is an optimum time, riders will be penalised 1 time fault per second over the optimum time and 1 time fault per second if they are more than 5 seconds under the optimum time.
There will be a joker fence (a show jump up to 1.45m) on the course, which is optional. Jump it clear and 5 secs will be removed from your time, knock it down and you have 10 seconds added to your time.
There are no penalties for stops – but you lose time as you have to represent.
Penalties are awarded as below:
Rail down 5 penalties
Third refusal Elimination
Fall of horse or rider Elimination
Joker Fence:
Jumped clear -5 penalties
Knocked down 10 penalties
Time penalties 1 penalty per second over the optimum time or if more than 5 seconds under the optimum time
The combination with the least penalties wins!
