Shetland Pony, Elf, Slowly on the Mend
Further to our previous reports about Elf the Shetland pony, who was cruelly dragged by a car on Christmas Day, we spoke to RSPCA today and learned the latest on his progress from from Anne Chester, RSPCA Qld's Senior Veterinarian.
Dr Chester advises that, "the last few days have seen quite a positive response in Elf. He is standing more often than not and is eating well (not that that has been an issue!) the most important thing is although his injuries are still horrendous and his prognosis is guarded, it appears that he is beginning to re-establish blood supply to the front of his foot. He still has fractures in his pedal bones in both hind legs but we are waiting to see how he continues to improve before making any decisions. He still has along road in front of him but at least for the moment he is moving in the right direction".
Elf is just one story in all the animal tragedies that have occurred in recent weeks, but we hope the little guy continues to improve and pulls through after his terrible ordeal!
