SQHA Shows - Something For Everyone This Weekend

Published on Friday, November 19, 2010 in Sponsored Shows

Clear your diary this weekend and come along to Sugarloaf Equestrian Centre, Cobbitty NSW, where the Sydney Quarter Horse Association (SQHA) has an exciting line up of events scheduled. First up is a Beginner Twilight Show on Saturday afternoon, followed by the Annual Presentation of High Point Winners on Saturday night and a AA Show on Sunday.

The Sydney Quarter Horse Association was formed to enable owners of western breed horses to show their horses at all levels of western performance, whether it be in western pleasure, horsemanship, trail, hunter under saddle, hunt seat equitation, hacking, reining or halter events. Western enables the whole family to enjoy friendly competition and caters to all levels from beginner through to advanced. Whether you’re looking to improve your riding or win a National Championship, western performance offers the opportunity to achieve your goals, whilst having fun and making friends.

The Beginner Twilight Show on 20 November commences at noon and includes Western and English events for beginners, but also provides a few open classes for all riders, so they can warm up for the AA show on Sunday.

The President of SQHA, Mr Mark Webster, has advised “immediately after the Beginner Show on Saturday, at approximately 5.00pm, we will conduct our Annual Presentation of High Point Awards to winners from the 2009/2010 show season. Club members will receive trophies and buckles for their achievements.”

Mark is enthusiastic about the shows on the weekend and encourages everyone to attend, even if it’s just as a fence sitter, “Western riding is great fun and is a wonderful family sport. My wife and two daughters will be showing alongside me on Saturday and Sunday – as well as many of our friends. What other sports provide this type of opportunity?”

The AA Show starts at 8.00am on Sunday 21 November and exhibitors will be showing under a well credentialed American Judge, Jane Bagley. Jane will also be judging the western pleasure events at Equitana, in Melbourne this week, before arriving in Sydney for the show on Sunday.

The SQHA are expecting at least 100 competitors for the weekend, from around NSW, who will be competing for the enormous number of prizes on offer on both days of showing, including cash, trophies, buckles and donated equine products, in addition to ribbons.

Exhibitors are able to enter on the day for the Beginner Show. Although pre-entry was required for the AA show, people can still enter on the weekend by paying a small late entry fee.

A canteen will be open both days, there is plenty of parking and entry as a spectator is free. So even if you are not able to compete or haven’t previously attended a western performance show, now is your chance to check out what it’s all about. This could be just the equestrian sport for you and your family. Everyone is welcome!
