“Best Show Ever” was how SSJC President David Lawrence described the Sydney Showjumping Club’s huge End of Year Championships at their Clarendon grounds on the weekend. 

Held over two days, with record entries, the success of the event was a culmination of preparation and planning by the hard working committee.

Equipment upgrades, visual enhancements with new flowers and plants, superb footing and first rate course planning provided a stage for some excellent showjumping. But it was the glorious weather, warm but with cloud cover and a slight breeze that sealed the deal.

Mark Atkins lead the team of four course designers, Mark Atkins – chief designer, David Sheppard ring 3, Sue Bettington ring 1 and Rob Howarth ring 4.

Chief judge was Katrina Dukats, with Juho Looveer, Susan Nault, Linda Beneke and Maureen Masters judging in the other rings.

Show Secretary, Karinda Alpert performed her usual miracles to accommodate riders from four different states, and over 1,650 rounds jumped.

Tom McDermott won the Grand Prix feature event on his rangy SL Limerick and Chris Chugg won the Mini Prix on Diamond B Vegas. Alyssa Ho won the Young Rider Championships on Bonaventure, Jessica Tripp the Junior Championships on Lovegrove and Ella Avery the Amateur Championships on Yalambi Ultima V.

Showjumping continues next weekend at SIEC with the Summer Classic running from 19th to 22nd December featuring the World Cup Qualifier final on Sunday.

SSJC will now have a recess for the Christmas break and resume in late January. Competitors are advised to check www.globalentriesonline.com for all details.
