Stallions of the Moment: Cristogracia Spanish Horses - Beauty and Performance

Picturesque highland pastures ringed by pristine rainforest enfold the heart of Cristogracia, a Spanish horse stud and training facility, which is turning out top quality performance horses.

Located south west of Cairns on the tropical Atherton Tablelands, this prime beef and dairy country is renowned for its fertile soils of volcanic origin. Established in 2003, Cristogracia is a family business owned and operated by husband and wife team, Grant Gardiner and Chris Maudsley.

Built on love, the stud strives to produce beautiful, intelligent Spanish horses that are a joy to ride, train and compete. Great pride is taken not only in the exclusive breeding programme but also in the individualised training of both horse and rider from the early stages to competitive levels. Cristogracia has a solid reputation for producing light, responsive horses with confidence in their riders.

Currently offered for sale is Cristogracia Viva (by Alegria Agraciado detailed below), a naturally confident and smart young mare with a friendly, easy going disposition. She has recently been started lightly under saddle and shows huge potential for a future performance career, with natural balance and rhythm. With an uphill canter, lovely extensions and the typical baroque potential for collection she makes for a very comfortable ride.

With two carefully selected stallions, the breeding program at Cristogracia carries on in the Spanish tradition, emphasising the unique charismatic temperament, high intelligence and willingness to go that extra mile. Cristogracia is approved as a breeding stud of P.R.E. horses with the Cria Caballar (the Spanish Stud Book). During their assessment, both stallions were highly regarded by the Spanish Revision team.

Grant and Chris feel that it is important that the stallions prove their genetic desirability as sires by themselves performing well within the competition arena. Indeed Agraciado and Serio are the main dressage competition horses for Chris and young rider Ruby Goodsell respectively.

Together the partnerships enjoy their ongoing training and the stallions have been rewarded for their efforts with Supremes and Championship wins in-hand and ridden. They are also regularly ridden in the company of mares and geldings, have frolicked at Mission Beach and perform well together in the Pas de deux.

Why he's on the A-list:

Serio (pictured above right and right) is the quintessential Spanish Horse with stunning good looks, magnificent temperament and graceful movement. Not only does he have the competitive ability for dressage, but also the power and balance for jumping. Serio is an absolute joy to ride, train and compete. His friendly, people orientated nature makes him a crowd favorite wherever he goes.

What we really love:
Serio has won numerous Supremes and Championships in halter and ridden. In 2010 he was awarded the Andalusian Halter Roll of Merit award by the Andalusian Horse Association of Australasia for his success in the show ring.

Serio has competed with great success in the dressage arena with his young rider, Ruby Goodsell, with high 60s - 70% scores. He has been awarded ATDDEA Champion Preliminary and Reserve Champion Novice Horse in 2010/2011.

As anticipated, Serio’s first foals are exquisite and have inherited his bubbly personality and wonderful trainability. Already owners, judges and spectators have been commenting on the outstanding temperament shown in his progeny. His first progeny made their debut in the Show Arena in 2012 with great success.

Alegria Agraciado

Why he's on the A-list:

Agraciado has that spectacular showmanship presence in both looks and movement. His action is captivating, his extensions are impressive and his hock action rivals some of the best. He is an incredibly athletic stallion and enjoys his dressage, jumping and most recently Working Equitation.

Agraciado’s foals have inherited his spectacular movement, flashy good looks and trainable mindset. With his eldest progeny now making their debut in the dressage and show arenas, they are getting noticed for all the right reasons - including his 4 yo Australian Andalusian gelding, Cristogracia Hugo, awarded Overall Champion Australian Andalusian and Derivative at the Mareeba All Breeds Horse Show in 2012.

What we really love:

Agraciado has won numerous Supremes and Championships in halter and ridden. In 2010 he was awarded the Open Halter Roll of Merit award by the Andalusian Horse Association of Australasia for his success in the show ring. Recently he won first place in both his Novice and Elementary tests at the Atherton Dressage Show with 64.44% in the Novice and 7s and 8s scores.
