Startlist Takes Shape for the Be the Influence Equestrian Grand Final: Exhibition Eventing

Published on Thursday, September 26, 2013 in General

Olympian Amanda Ross won the first Be the Influence Equestrian Grand Final qualifier for Exhibition Eventing, held overnight at the Royal Melbourne Show.

The Victorian qualifier, which is the first of two opportunities for riders to claim one of eight automatic qualifying positions for the final, attracted a record number of entries and a large and enthusiastic crowd gathered to see who would take the four qualifying positions available from this event.

With two entries each, Amanda Ross and Will Enzinger occupied the first four positions between them following the dressage phase but the top order was quickly sorted out once the jumping began.

The jumping phase of exhibition eventing comprises a mixture of cross country and show jumps as well as an optional joker fence, which, if cleared, subtracts four penalties from a combination’s overall score.

With a clear jumping round, which included safely making it over the joker fence, Ross and her mount William Woodsworth took first place ahead of Enzinger and TS Jamaimo who finished in second.

The remaining two qualifying positions were taken by Anthony Thomas & Levitation NZPH and Enzinger’s second horse Mousetrap (view results HERE).

The Be the Influence Equestrian Grand Final qualifying series for Exhibition Eventing now moves to the Wallaby Hill Horse Trials (11-12 October).

For eight automatic qualifiers and a further seven wildcard entries, it's then onto the final, which is this year taking place under the lights of the Sydney Showground's dome arena. Seating to the Exhibition Eventing final is unreserved and is included in the cost of an EQUITANA Sydney general admission pass allowing fans a chance to experience Australia's top event riders go head to head in this exciting arena format while also gaining entry to this year's event.
