State Pony Club Championships Visit Gloucester This Weekend

Published on Monday, April 8, 2013 in General

Gloucester is soon to host horse riders from all across New South Wales and Queensland for the AGL State Sporting and Campdrafting Championships. These two popular events are held over the same weekend, Sporting on Saturday 13th April and Campdrafting on Sunday 14th April.

This championship is held every year in the April school holidays and hosted by a different pony club zone in NSW.

This year’s event has attracted large entries over all age groups promising some impressive competition. Pony Club State Sporting has over 270 entries overall with around 140 competitors entered in State Campdrafting. The largest division in both events is the 17 to under 25 year age group.

Competitors have travelled from as far south as Bega on the NSW south coast and interstate with some QLD’s making the trip. Local host pony club Zone 25 have entered around 30 riders in Sporting and 25 riders in Campdrafting.

The Pony Club NSW State Sporting Championships brings keen competition in Flag, Bending, and Barrel racing as well as other novelty events.

Campdrafting is a uniquely Australian sport fostered within the Pony Club movement. Riders demonstrate their skills at cutting a beast out of a mob in an enclosure and then manoeuvring it around a set course.

The AGL Energy State Sporting and Campdrafting Championships will commence at 8:30am on both days with the awards presentation to get under way at around 3:30pm on the Sunday. Entry is free and with the competition expected to be fierce spectators are encouraged to attend. A canteen will be in operation for the period of the championship and there will be various trade stands to browse during the event.

The Pony Club NSW State Sporting and Campdrafting Championships are supported by Naming Rights sponsors AGL Energy Limited Gloucester, Sport and Recreation a division of Communities NSW, Mitavite official feed partner, Flametree State Championship rug sponsor, as well as other local sponsors.
