Sun Shines for Bungendore Show
Bungendore Show was held on Sunday 27 January and the heavy rain forecast for Saturday and Sunday arrived on Saturday night but, mercifully, cleared by Sunday morning.
Show President and Chief Horse Steward, Marion Whalan, said “Uncertainty about the weather clearly affected the gate takings and horse event entries and the weather bureau didn’t do us any favours by saying the rain would continue into Sunday. Horse numbers were down a little, but the eleven rings on offer made it worthwhile for exhibitors who did make the trip. Show Hunter ponies, galloways and horses exhibited in a separate ring for the first time this year. The Show retained a heavy horse section from 2012 and there were about 20 entries, quite a few of them local, and as well as exhibitors from further afield, with all saying that they would be back next year.”
As always, the main ring saw strong exhibitor numbers and judge Graham Colvin was very impressed with the standard of hacks, galloways and ponies. In the Tahiti Champion Hack class, Graham commented on the extremely high standard “ there were some great horses all very well ridden in the class” Graham said. The class was won by Jimmy Choo, exhibited by Indya Povey, with Maid of Honour, exhibited by A Reid taking out the reserve. In the same ring, Jess Stalling had a great end to the day, taking out both Champion and Reserve Champion Pony Hack with HP Icon (pictured) and MP Miss Dior.
In the Show Hunter ring, under Judge Eileen Gibson, local riders Zoe Wheelhouse and Molly Hammond had a great show, with many firsts and Molly winning Champion Show Hunter Horse with her Aloha Verdi. The Supreme Show Hunter Horse was awarded to the Champion Show Hunter Pony Melody Park Heavenly Pearl, exhibited by C Pavia.
In the Australian Stock Horse Ring, another local exhibitor, Georgia Hope, had a successful show, taking out Supreme Led ASH Exhibit, Reserve Champion ASH Station Hack, Champion ASH Working Horse and Supreme Champion Ridden ASH with the Hope Family’s Jindalee Matisse.
Overall the Committee and band of hardworking volunteers put on a great Show, which received many favourable comments from exhibitors. John Sercombe from Distant View Clydesdales said “Congratulations to yourself and your committee on a well run show on Sunday, we had a terrific day and we will definitely be back next year.”
