Having won a second blue ribbon for the class in as many years, Shane Rose is the undisputed king of Exhibition Eventing at Sydney Royal!

The Olympic Silver Medallist and London Olympic Games hopeful was all smiles as he and his six year old gelding Virgil galloped to victory. The combination led the class after Dressage and put in a near faultless performance in the Jumping phase to secure his position at the top of the leader board.

The win secures Rose and the top four finishers a position at the Exhibition Eventing Grand Final which will be held as part of the Equestrian Grand Final which will be held at EQUITANA Melbourne later in the year.

“This event is a lot of fun for the competitors and it certainly gives people a really good insight into what our sport involves,” said Rose. “It’s something that is certainly going to grow in the future and will hopefully get more people involved in and enjoying our sport.”

Tim Boland on Umunga trailed Rose after the dressage and maintained this position after the jumping component to finish the day in second place. John Twomey and Wade Equine Highly Recommended, improved their fourth position after the first competition instalment to take home third place overall.

Jade Suttor on Frontier Psychiatrist ended the day in fourth position.

19 year old Tara Sheridan, finished in fifth place on It’s a Miracle and was awarded the prize for best placed rider under 25 years.

Domininic Ingvall gave the crowd a scare when she fell off her horse at the third jump. She was taken to hospital as a precaution and her horse, Kitara Diamond Edition, received stitches to its leg.

The Exhibition Eventing class is the first of two qualifying events for the Exhibition Eventing Final which will form part of the 2012 Equestrian Grand Final. This spectacular multi-discipline event will be held at EQUITANA Melbourne from 15-18th November 2012.
