Tennyson Stud Sells Grand Prix Dressage Horse - Rolex

Published on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 in Stallionzone

Congratulations to Claire Seidl of Tennyson Stud on the sale of her lovely Grand Prix dressage horse, Rolex, (Spider to his friends) to a young rider. Horsezone is happy to have been able to help make the introduction between Rolex and his excited new owner.

Claire's journey with Rolex

I was asked to judge the Queensland Championships 2001 Young Horse Finalist and Rolex (Spider) was one of the finalists at three and half years old. Harry Boldt was also judging and after the final we had dinner together.

We discussed the various horses and I said I liked the grey horse and he’s for sale. Harry urged me not to miss the opportunity and I bought a horse after three minutes riding!

What attracted Rolex to me was his easy demeanour, quiet temperament and willingness to please. I had had a tumultuous journey with my then Grand Prix horse HRH who was superbly talented, with absolutely no trainability.

I believe that it is a pointless exercise to have the athletic ability without the temperament. And today that is the foundation of Tennyson Stud, to breed the perfect combination of rideability and talent.

Rolex always gave his all and I have been honoured to share the journey with him. He has been kind and generous and it was a very difficult decision to sell my friend of 13 years.

I am proud to have trained him and Stephan Wolffe once commented about that German horse and I asked why he believed he had come from Germany. He said no horse is trained like that in Australia.

Our success was not my doing but Spider’s constant willingness. He has been sold to a lovely young rider and I wish them all the best on their own journey and look forward to seeing him compete for many years to come.

Life goes on without Rolex, however, only this morning I thought, who will I start the day with? I’ll ride Spider first…

Good luck my friend we already miss you and will always cherish our memories and know you will take special care of your new owner and teach them so much.

The future looks bright for Tennyson Stud

The future looks exciting at Tennyson Stud and I have so many youngsters to work with. TS Wicked our licensed stallion by Worldwide, who was awarded a 10 for rideability at his classification, is happily doing flying changes at four years old. We have TS Whitsunday, a superb two year old Worldwide filly out of TS Dubai (D- Day), going to the breaker next week and TS Ducati a glorious 18 month old colt by Dancier out of TS Wow another Worldwide mare. I am going to be focussing on breeding with riding stock in the future and I will be selling a selection of broodmares - stay tuned to Horsezone for details about these mares.
