The Ultimate Horseman Challenge - Christy Connor is the Latest Young Gun!

Published on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 in General

The Ultimate Horseman Challenge, which is being billed as the greatest colt starting competition in history, will be held on 18-20 October at the Dalby Qld showgrounds.

Six of Australia's top horse people will battle it out in a contest of skill and knowledge over three days.

Each day three of Australia's top YOUNG GUNS (under 35) will demonstrate their ability to tame an unbroken horse, while competing for cash and prizes.

Shortly thereafter three horse industry LEGENDS (over 35) will showcase their skills and knowledge in a contest of horsemanship for the title of THE ULTIMATE HORSEMAN.

While each evening the top rough riders in the country will vie for the championship at the NRS National Finals Rodeo.

Local Horse Magazine, who will be live streaming this amazing event, is excited to reveal the next YOUNG GUN and the only female competitor in The Ultimate Horseman...

From Taralga, NSW, we introduce to you the talented Miss Christy Connor!

For Christy horses have always been a dominant part of her life growing up on the family farm in the small town of Taralga in Southern NSW, spending many days mustering cattle in the hills and honing her riding skills at the local pony club.

In her early teens, Christy began to seek out new challenges competing in campdrafts and rodeos; however, it was Stockman’s Challenge events that really sparked her interest and where she truly found her feet.

Christy has enjoyed marked success on the Australian Stockman’s Challenge circuit. Among winning 15 Ladies Championship titles, she is the first woman to ever make an open Top Ten Final. This year was also a highlight for Christy as she made history being the only woman to win an Open Challenge by winning the NCHA Stockman’s Challenge in Tamworth where she competed against some of the top horsemen in the country.

It was at one of these challenges, The Man From Snowy River Challenge in Corryong, Victoria, that Christy first met her mentor Heath Harris. Christy was impressed with a Liberty Horse demonstration by Heath and afterwards went over to meet him and that’s when her formal training started.

Heath invited Christy to come and work and train under him. She spent 3 years training and starting horses and learning as much as she could from the master horse trainer. Whilst being exposed to many different aspects of the horse industry, Christy took particular interest in Liberty and Trick Riding.

Christy holds two Australian Freestyle Championship Trick Riding Titles and is the Director of Girls Girls Girls Extreme Trick Riding Team who perform all over Australia.

In 2010, Christy returned to Taralga where she runs her own horse breaking and training business called CC’s Equine Training. She is working hard to expand her business and establish herself within the industry, continuing to always develop her skills and knowledge base.

Being only 24, what she may lack in experience she makes up for with passion, determination, guts and the willingness to learn a natural affinity with horses.
