There is a massive range of second hand horse floats for sale on Horsezone and if you are looking to buy, we are your go-to website! Check out horse floats for sale HERE.
Whether you are buying your first float or need to purchase a different float due to a change in circumstances, following are useful tips for buying a second hand horse float.
Know what you are looking for
Questions to ask yourself:
- straight load or angle load?
- size and number of horses you will usually be transporting?
- type of events will you be attending ie: will you be camping over night?
- towing vehicle limits?
- what is your budget?
It's important to consider these questions when deciding on the type of float you need.
If you mainly attend events for just one day with one horse then a basic straight load float should suit you, however, if you attend multiple-day events with a couple of big horses, an enclosed angle load with extended front and camping facilities (cupboards, kitchen, bedding options, awning, yards) might be needed.
The type of vehicle you will be towing with and your budget will also impact on the type and size of float you are able to purchase.
Research the market
Once you've decided on the type of float you are looking for, browse through the floats currently listed on Horsezone to determine what is out there and the approximate prices. Talk to friends and people at events about their floats to determine the brands and various features that may suit you. For example, a lady who transports horses on her own will want something that is easy for a lone female to do everything with, like a spring loaded tailgate, and vents etc that are easy to reach.
Speak to sellers in person
Once you've found a float or selection of floats that you think will suit you, call the seller/s and speak to them in person. This is the best way to determine if a float is what you are looking for and if it is a genuine sale. Ask all about the float - the type of horses they transported, vehicle they towed with, events they attended and confirm that the float is indeed road worthy. If you think a float will suit you whenever possible travel to see it. If you are unable to see the float in person and want to see more details, ask for more photos.
Once you've found 'The One'
If you have found your perfect float the next step is to make an offer. We highly recommend Horsezone's new Equine SafePay system, especially if you're buying a float sight unseen, this will ensure that the seller is 100% genuine and your funds are protected until the float is in your possession.
