Top Five Horse Health Resolutions for 2012

Published on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 in Health

With a new year upon us we're all busy making (and hopefully not breaking yet!) resolutions for 2012, with good intentions to keep them, of course!

When it comes to resolutions for our horsey lives we usually make resolutions that involve riding/training more often, getting fitter to improve our riding or working on stopping riding bad habits that may have hindered our horse's performance in recent years.

Non-horsey resolutions usually involve improving our health - eat less, drink less, stop smoking, go to the gym etc etc - all the usual goals that seem very attractive after serious partying during the Christmas season, but what about resolving to improve our horse health care?

TheHorse.com has come up their Top Five Horse Health Resolutions for 2012, which include respecting your horse's breathing zone, staying on top of regular worming, creating and maintaining a first aid kit, managing your horse's weight and even helping out horse rescue organisations by donating your time or health care products for less fortunate equines.

We're sure you can come up with plenty of other resolutions that will help your horse's general well being in 2012 - one of mine is to pick up small fallen branches and sticks regularly from my horse's paddock, to stop them flinging up and hitting him in the legs when he goes for a gallop!

Happy New Year and good luck with your resolutions - whatever they may be...
