Published on Thursday, October 13, 2011 in Stallionzone

A successful on property Haydon Horse Stud sale offering 16 colts held on Saturday 8 October saw top colts go to leading breeders. Top priced colt of the sale, Haydon Orbital, sold for $26,000 to Terry Blake’s Rosebrook Stud, one of the leading studs in Australia.

Orbital is by Haydon Nightwatch and has the distinction of having his full brother standing at Stud in the USA.

Haydon Horse Stud has the unique claim of breeding horses continually on the same property by the same family since 1832. In her opening address ASHS Chairman, Joy Poole called it an “iconic stud” whose claim would make it one of the oldest continual family studs not only in the Australia but in the world.

Many commented on the excellent presentation of the colts, how well handled they were, the setting and historic surrounds.

Another Nightwatch son, five month old Haydon Blackwatch, sold for $10,000 to Andrew and Julie Sutton, who also purchased Lot 3 Haydon Rico, which saw the Suttons taking two colts back to Victoria.

Doug Munro with his family purchased two lots, Haydon Saturn and Haydon Image for their breeding program at Tullatula, Merriwa.

Koobah Performance Horses were another to purchase multiple lots securing Haydon Hectare and Haydon Zorba, who will be performed by their trainer Phillip Elliot.

James and Bec Hockey with the help of Bec's father, Robert Doolin, who has had a long association with Haydon horses, selected Lot 8 Haydon Zane to join to their mares at Springfield, Spring Ridge. He was the oldest son offered by the classically bred Techrico who is by Zabeel from champion mare Vaindarra.

Helen Batterham and Mandy Blomfield, who were both judging at the State Championship at Scone on Sunday, purchased Haydon Acres and Haydon Hitech, respectively.

All colts were sold at the sale, which was conducted by MacCallum Inglis.  The sale was followed by an enjoyable BBQ dinner!
