Top Jumping Riders to Contest the Equestrian Grand Final

Published on Friday, October 7, 2011 in General

The best jumping riders in Australia will compete at the inaugural Equestrian Grand Final Jumping, held as part of EQUITANA, Sydney 10-13 November.

Excitement is building as the list of riders invited to compete at the elite Grand Prix event was finalised today following the announcement of the “wild cards”.

The field of eighteen includes the cream-of-the-crop including international star Chris Chugg, who will be riding Diamond B Vigo, a daughter of his 2010 World Equestrian Games mount Vivant.

The loss of an eye due to a melanoma in 2007 has done little to slow Vicki Roycroft down. The three-time Olympian and three-time World Championships representative has qualified her up-and-coming star Kartoon de Breve.

Jamie Kermond (2006 World Equestrian Games representative - pictured) and talented Queenslander Billy Raymont have each qualified two horses. Kermond on Colthaga and Valhalla3, Raymont on Stardom and Cortaflex Nicalette NZPH.

Young super star Tom McDermott from Wagga Wagga, NSW, will be the youngest competitor at just 18 years of age.

Fifteen riders gained qualification for the Equestrian Grand Final via performances at five of the premiere 2011 World Cup events held Australia wide. A further three riders, Chris Chugg (Glossodia, NSW), Brett Warren (Traveston, Qld) and Rebecca Allen (Arthurs Creek, Vic) have been granted ‘wild cards”.

The Equestrian Grand Final will bring together Australia’s leading competitors in Dressage, Jumping and Eventing in one spectacular event.

The Equestrian Grand Final Jumping will be held from 7.30pm to 9:00pm Friday 11 November in the spectacular 5000 seat indoor “Dome Arena”, Sydney Showground.
