The 2012 Queensland Arabian Challenge Show was held 18-20 May, with over 200 gorgeous horses and their handlers taking advantage of the great QSEC facilities and perfect weather.

Organiser Yvonne Barlow was very happy, saying, "It was a fantastic show with lots of energy, beautiful horses and heaps of fun for all! We've had plenty of positive feedback and are thrilled."

"Everyone was very pleased with QSEC. The horse and human facilities were fantastic, there was a great amount of light in the arena, plenty of seating and a good view from wherever you sat. The QSEC staff were extremely helpful too."

"Our guest international judge, Mr Dick Adams (USA), was so impressed with the quality of the horses, saying that he was here 17 years ago and could not get over how high the standard is now."

"As well as top class competition, another highlight of the show was Friday night's crazy knockem' down Golden Gumboot race. This was fiercely contested with about 18 teams. It was hysterical!"

In the led events, on Saturday there were plenty of different Arabian derivatives on show and the judge had his work cut out for him when judging Supreme Arabian Derivative, which was won by the stunning Warmblood Arabian, EBL Juliette.

Sunday saw the beautiful and flamboyant purebreds take to the arena and the gorgeous imported stallion, Saudi el Perseus, was sashed as Supreme Exhibit.

There were fairly good numbers across the ridden classes with Purebreds Under Saddle shown on Saturday and Arabian Derivatives on Sunday, as well as feature events.

Horsezone was a sponsor of this event and personally I enjoyed the party like atmosphere of the show, which was enhanced with loud music, colourful decorations around the arena and spectators cheering for their favourites.

I was impressed with the wide variety of quality horses being shown, both in hand and under saddle - as well as purebreds there were many different derivatives, Arabians crossed with many other breeds.

Although I didn't get to see many under saddle classes, of those I did see, the purebred Arabian geldings were especially a pleasure to watch - all were well educated, nice movers, who worked out well for hack judge, Narelle Kinnear (NSW).

I also loved the trophy rugs, supplied by Caballo, which were black with gold sparkles on the tail flap. Gorgeous!

Congratulations to the organising committee on an overall great show!
