Published on Monday, February 4, 2013 in General

Well respected horseman, Colin Meagher, has lost his short battle with cancer at the age of 81 years.  Colin is survived by his wife Patricia, children Heidi and Toby, grandchildren Jacob, Caitlin, Winter and Declan.

Colin was born in Isisford, moved to Dirranbandi as a teenager for work and then moved to his lifetime home Wongawallen in 1968.  His kindness and positive outlook impressed upon those that were lucky enough to know him.

He was an avid horseman with a passion for Showjumping and Eventing.  He competed himself and produced some wonderful horses such as Gulf Country and Beau Bijou to name a few.

Colin was heavily involved in the Queensland Horse Community, having served 18 years as Ringmaster and later President of the RNA (Ekka) for many years, in addition to serving on various other Boards and Trusts including Parklands & the Jupiters Trust.  Colin was Patron of the Queensland Pony Club Association since it's inception.

He also served on the Equestrian Federation of Australia, Queensland Branch Committee (now Equestrian Queensland) from 1969 to 1986.  During that time he served as Vice President of the Branch from 1973 to 1982, often stepping up to fill the role of Chair as required.

A highlight in Colin’s equestrian roles was to serve as Equestrian Team Manager at the 1984 Los Angeles Games for the Australian Equestrian Team.

He was a true gentleman that touched many lives and will be missed by all but never forgotten.

RIP Colin Meagher AM
