Victorian Young Riders (L-R) Jamie Mita, Alicia Ryan, Fern Wright enjoyed their experience in New Zealand! |
At the invitation of Dressage New Zealand, three Victorian riders, Jamie Mita, Alicia Ryan and Fern Wright, competed at the New Zealand Youth Dressage Championships at Taupo 1 – 2 April.
The invitation was a result of a team of New Zealand Young Riders competing at the Ellanbrae Park Victorian Youth Championships at Boneo Park in January 2017. The NZ riders had a great time and really enjoyed our hospitality and the efforts made in sourcing excellent loan horses.
Jamie Mita’s horse was a lovely young thoroughbred, So Precious, and they were models of consistency with four tests for four fourth places at NZ Level One. Alicia Ryan clicked with another lovely horse, Hapsburg PSH, at Level Five (Medium) with four tests for three seconds and one third and Reserve Champion Level Five. Fern Wright and Don Jeremy started the event very well with a fourth place at Level Five before Jeremy pulled up a little sore and was unable to compete on the second day.
Our Victorian Team finished second to New Zealand in the Teams event.
What an experience for all the riders!
Alicia, Fern & Jamie are all members of the Victorian Young Rider A Squad and our Team Manager was Julia Battams.
