WA Under 24 Women's Team Triumphant on First Day of Barastoc Polocrosse Nationals!

Published on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 in Sponsored Shows

The long awaited Barastoc Polocrosse National Championships got underway yesterday in Warwick - here is the latest update from Horsezone's sponsored team - the WA Under 24 Women's Team...

Finally! The Nationals are here. Sunday night all the players donned their State uniforms for the Official Civic Reception held on the main field. As well as the official speeches, each team walked across a podium, were introduced and had their photo taken.

Monday morning was the Official Opening and Grand Parade (on horses). An annoyance when all you want to do is go and play but once out there, with all the other states, a real thrill.

The Under 24 Women were the first WA team to play.  Our opponents were South Australia and with great play from Hailey Martin, Hannah Watkins and Lauren Cant the first chukka put on 4 goals to 0.  The second chukka of Tia Hall, Sandy Corbett and Sharna Hall went 3 to 2 to SA. The third, with Jill Warner coming in as a two was again 4 zip. Hannah Watkins was a two in the fourth with goals going 4 to 1 in our favour.  Sandy went out the back and Lauren up front in the fifth for 4 goals to 2 in WA’s favour.  The sixth chukka the SA girls had a bit of a resurgence to score 4 good goals.  The final score was 18 to 9 to us.  It was a good pipe cleaner but having watched some of the Under 24 Women’s games all the players are aware that the toughest games are yet to come.

To cap the day off the only other WA side to play, the Masters Mixed, convincingly beat the Northern Territory.

Great job Team! Best of luck for Wednesday!
