With so many other nations in the spotlight on the medal podium at WEG, it seems for the moment that little Australia has almost been forgotten - but not in the reining pen!
Warren Backhouse on board Whizs Bronze Star, made a great run in the Individual Reining Final qualifier event, finishing 4th out of 21 competitors, which means he will now compete in the final.
Warren had to finish in the top five to be included in the 20 horse final and is thrilled to be joinining Aussie teammate, Martin Larcombe, (who gained automatic qualification for the final after a good result in the first round of competition) in flying the flag for Australia.
When asked how his run felt today, Warren exclaimed, "awesome! He (Whiz) got strong in one place but the horse was good through the whole run. He just hung out there, I didn't have to handle him and he just did his job. I felt that we definitely went better than on the first day."
Whizs Bronze Star's USA trainer Pete Kyle, commented, "Warren did a good job all the way through and the run was alot better."
With Two Australians in the Individual Reining Final, the first time ever at the World Equestrian Games, we'll all be eagerly waiting to hear the results. The Individual Reining Final commences at 1.00pm Kentucky time on Thursday 30 September (3.00am 1 October, Australian time).
Best of luck to Warren and Martin - we'll all be there, cheering you on, in spirit!
