Three of the six Australian horse and rider combinations shortlisted by national eventing selectors for the squad are from Western Australia and one each are from Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia.

Event director, Michael Hands congratulated all riders on their selection, saying it was a testament to their commitment to achieving at the highest level.

“The Melbourne International Horse Trials enjoys a rich history of providing an elite level of competition for Junior and Young Riders and we look forward to welcoming the Australian and New Zealand teams to Werribee Park for the Queen’s Birthday weekend.”

The six selected squad members include 2011 and 2012 MIHT CCIJ1* winners Teegan Ashby and her Rockingham No Reason (New South Wales) and Victoria’s Naomi White and Mighty Tosca. Ashby and Rockingham No Reason also enjoyed success at the recent Sydney International Horse Trials, taking out the CCI2* competition in the lead up to MIHT.

Returning MIHT riders Jaimie Stichel and Image Blue Ice (South Australia) and Michaela Martindale and Kinnordy Gatow (Western Australia) will join two new faces to MIHT in Western Australia’s Emily Gray and Deltry Invader and Gabrielle Pither and Max Almighty, making up the final six.

The final team of four riders, selected to represent Australia against New Zealand at the MIHT will be determined following the first horse inspection of the event.

This year’s competition is set to be fierce with a record AU$50,000 prize pool on offer, shared across the CCIJ1*, CCI1*, CCI2* and CCI3* classes.
