World Number 2 Rider Jonathon 'Jock' Paget Confirmed for Australian International 3 Day Event
Equestrian superstar Jonathon “Jock” Paget will be coming to Adelaide for the Australian International 3 Day Event, November 14-17 in the Adelaide Parklands.
The world’s number two ranked equestrian rider and winner of Badminton and Burghley Horse trials this year has confirmed he will be at this year’s Adelaide event to do an Eventing Masterclass and conduct walks around the picturesque 6km parklands course with spectators, sponsors, riders and school groups. He will also take part in an exciting half time challenge with other eventing greats at the Friday twilight ‘Grant Burge Wines Polo in the Park’ The 29 year old UK based New Zealander, who won an Olympic bronze medal in Team Eventing at the London Olympics, has won two of the four HSBC FEI Classics Series CCI**** events held so far this year, which is the highest level of international equestrian competition.
AI3DE Director, Gill Rolton, is delighted Paget has committed to attending the event.
“We’re really excited that Jock is coming to Adelaide. He has done amazing things in the past 12 months in all of the northern hemisphere events, and it will be great to have him at the Southern Hemisphere’s premier equestrian competition.”
Jock was born in New Zealand, but moved to Australia as a 3 year old. He worked as a bricklayer in Sydney before he began jumping at the age of 18, when he moved to Queensland to work for three years with Australian competitor, Kevin Mc Nab. He was identified by New Zealand’s high performance unit as having talent, moved back to NZ and formed a strong partnership with a top horse owner before moving to the UK last year ahead of the London Olympics.
“We hope to see him compete in the CCI ** but he is unable to bring his 4* horses over from the UK to compete in Adelaide due to quarantine restrictions - but we’re thrilled he is making his way down to and take part in some of the AI3DE action both on and off the field,” Gill said.
New Zealand riders have won every CCI**** event on the International circuit so far this year and will be trying to keep the record intact with horses coming across the Tasman to compete.
Olympic medallists Wendy Schaeffer, Megan Jones, Shane Rose, Stuart Tinney, and last year’s winner Craig Barrett are also confirmed for this year’s event, which includes “Grant Burge Wines Polo in the Park” for the first time.
Tickets can be purchased through Ticketek.
