Zara Breaks Down in Tears as She Retires Toytown

Published on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 in General

Zara Phillips tried to maintain royal decorum, however, she couldn't help breaking down in tears when officially retiring her beloved horse, Toytown, at Gatcombe on the weekend.

Toytown - a bright chestnut with cute white spots, who is fondly known as Noddy or Ginger - and Zara acheived greatness together in the eventing world, including being crowned European Champions in 2005 and World Eventing Champions in 2006.

Zara describes Toytown as 'the complete horse'.  When asked about how she'll handle Toytown's retirement she said, "I think it will be quite difficult.  It's the end of an era.  He was the horse of a lifetime for me.  We grew up together, we went through the levels together and it all just seemed to go our way.  His movement, his character, it all combined to make the complete horse. And cross-country, he was just a machine.  I don't think I am ever going to find another horse quite like him, but hopefully others that will be good enough to go to the same level as he did."
