Alex Berwick and Xlerate Win 2012 Garryowen Equestrienne Turnout
Alex Berwick and Xlerate have claimed the 2012 Garryowen Equestrienne Turnout competition at the Royal Melbourne Show. The pair may have only been together for 10 months, but they've already formed a winning relationship.
Winning the Garryowen today, fulfilled a lifelong ambition for Berwick, who has been riding since she was just three.
The 22-year-old paid tribute to Xlerate, a former champion racehorse, as she accepted the royal blue sash. (Find your own future champion at the Inglis Spring Thoroughbred Sale which is on today!)
"I love him to death,'' Berwick told Weekly Times Now. "He's just so special.
"He's a good boy who never lets me down. He's reliable to ride, but he's also got his quirks.''
It's been a big year for 12-year-old Xlerate, who also claimed the Barastoc Horse of the Year title with Berwick in February, just a month after he started showing.
