Are you looking for a tall, dark & handsome man in your life? One that is a bit of a goofball, makes you laugh, loves to spend time with you, is Mr reliable & won't leave you for someone else?
Shadow might just be the man for you!  🦄
Are you searching for that illusive unicorn that:
Won't cost you a fortune, ✔️
Comes with all his tack ✔️
is more woah than go, ✔️
a great confidence builder ✔️
Pretty enough for the show ring ✔️
will meet you at the gate everyday, ✔️
will do absolutely anything for a treat (even if its just hay). ✔️
One that is forgiving of an unbalanced seat & unsteady hands, ✔️
Who will stand still for you, even as you dismount clumsily, your riding vest gets stuck on the saddle & you fumble to the ground on your back, looking at the sky like a turtle 🐢 ✔️ (yes that actually happened, yes he was just as embarrassed as i was 🤦🏼‍♀️)

If you're one of those people who say "NO STANDARDBREDS" in your wanted add, then maybe he's not for you

INTRODUCING SHADOW! Aka. Bonus Play 2014 (9yo) Bay/brown standardbred gelding. Approx 16.3 hh.
I purchased Shadow through the HRVhero program last year, to be my confidence builder and to get back into riding again, after fracturing my spine. He has done a great job at that, and he is so ready to find his next human & hopefully his forever home. Even though he would love to be a pretty paddock ornament, he is super special and I would love to see him make someone else very happy.
Shadow is definitely more woah than go. His favourite gait is the walk. He has a beautiful swinging trot and carries himself in a lovely open frame once you get him moving.  If he is unsure of what your asking, or if his walk is too slow before asking for a trot, he will pace. His pace is actually SUPER comfortable to ride. If you're a trail or endurance rider, you could sit comfortably all day. His canter isnt fully established with me, however the HRVhero retrainers had him cantering & jumping (they have videos on their fb). I believe he will pick it up again no worries with an experienced rider with a balanced seat.
Pros:
Shadow meets you at the gate, easy to catch, will stand tied all day if there's a hay bag in front of him. You dont have to work him every day, leave for a week or so & get back on. He is unfazed by most things, he stands at the mounting block, has no vices, is super easy to do everything with, great for the farrier (hes currently barefoot), good to wash, clip, plait up and float. Sometimes he needs a little encouragement to walk on the float (treats help). He has super potential for the show ring or as a good reliable all-rounder. He loves the company of people and is super smoochy, he's basically a big Labrador.
Cons:
Shadow can be an a**hole at feeding time when out in the paddock. He can be pushy & will kick out at other horses if they try to steal his food. Oddly, he doesn't do this if he is tied up to a float or rail. He hasnt shown this behaviour to horses when out & about. I had him paddocked with 2 mini ponies and while he liked their company 70% of the time, at feeding time he wasn't a fan of the cheeky ponies. He has been in a paddock alone for the past 4 months and he seems a lot happier on his own.

He is a big lad. Standing at about 16.3h (not officially measured). He can be pushy on the ground if you let him get away with it.  Due to this, I don't think he would be suitable for an absolute beginner or a super nervous handler.
I was an absolute nervous nellie when I got him, i would have panic attacks at the mounting block, i had an unbalanced seat & unsteady hands but he is so forgiving and sensible that with the help of a coach, I was riding out in the big paddock by myself in no time! He's not spooky, he wont buck or bolt, its too much effort for him. Even if something scary happens he's over it in less than 2seconds.
I believe he would be suited to novice & above riders. Possibly a confident beginner under instruction or from a horsey home to keep him from learning bad habits.
He has been to a few local shows in a few led classes and was always super chill & relaxed. He is eligible for ott standardbred classes & newcomers & is registered with EA & SPPHASA. He will make his next human very happy! He is currently in light work (ridden once or twice a week),he is in great condition and is doing well on just hay & a small hard feed once a day.
Shadow will come as a complete package! He comes with a wardrobe of rugs, halter & lead, fully mounted brown leather collegiate 17" dressage saddle, saddle cloth, 2 bridles (1 work, 1 flexible fit leather) & bits. Priced to suit current market.
Plenty of photos & videos for serious buyers. Vet checks welcome.
