Burpengary Pony Club held their annual showjumping competition on Saturday 3 March with 120 competitors attending from Pony Clubs across South East Queensland.

A beautiful, if somewhat steamy day, provided good conditions for the three rings, which featured events that ranged from the 50cm unofficial to the A and B Grade class. 

Numbers were down in the higher grade classes but there were plenty of keen riders in the smaller height classes and evidence of many young and enthusiastic competitors coming up through the ranks. Many of these young riders were on size-appropriate ponies too, which was nice to see and quite a few combinations looked like classic Thelwell (legendary equine cartoonist) characters!

There was no shortage of smiling faces, whatever the results in the rings, with competitors enjoying a bit of a challenge and a day out with their horses and friends. It's fantastic that pony club offers the smaller height classes to all age groups, so older riders can start young or inexperienced horses or build their own confidence, over not so daunting fences.

A storm threatened towards the end of the day so a speedy presentation was held, where Champions for each group were presented with very stylish embroidered trophy rugs.
