Introduction: Craigston Mystic Spirit (“Joey”) is a quality, officially measured 14.2hh pony with a genuine competition record across EA, Pony Club and Interschool settings. EA-registered and currently competing, Joey offers established flatwork, a versatile education and the sort of broad experience that makes him a very appealing option for a capable junior or competitive small adult.
Joey is a lovely, much-loved pony who enjoys having a job. He would suit a rider wanting a competitive pony for dressage, showing and lower-level eventing, with the versatility to also enjoy showjumping, trail riding, beach outings and fun days out.
Education, skills and experience: Joey has competed over the last 2 years at Pony Club and EA events, including EV65–80, showjumping to 80cm, combined training 80cm and dressage at Preliminary level, with capability for Novice . Since 2025, out of 7 EV65 starts, Joey has won three and was in the top 4 after dressage every time.
VIC Interschools State Champs 2026 – 5th CT80
CDI November 2025 – 4th Overall Prelim Dressage
Shirley Heights International EV65 – finished 1st on 24.7 penalties
Friends of Werribee EV65 – finished 1st on 30.6 penalties
He has attended numerous Interschool competitions, is EA registered for dressage and eventing, and is experienced in a range of environments, from busy competitions to relaxed trail rides and beach swims. His varied education makes him an attractive option for a rider wanting a genuine, established pony with the ability to compete and the temperament to enjoy variety.
General demeanour under saddle: Under saddle, Joey is willing, responsive and light in the bridle. He gives his rider a lovely, secure feeling, works with the rider and wants to please. One of Joey’s strengths is that he adapts to the rider. He is tolerant of mistakes, steady with less experienced riders and able to step up with a more experienced partner. He has taken his current rider from a nervous 12-year-old junior to a confident 15-year-old competitive Interschool rider. Joey is generally calm and reliable, while not completely unflappable. He is social and sensible at competitions, making him a great junior pony.
Current workload / fitness: Joey is in work and ridden three or more times per week. He is currently competing and does not require daily riding to remain reliable and settled.
Handling: Joey is easy to catch, leads willingly and is straightforward to clip. He is good for the farrier, is happy barefoot, and is straightforward for the vet. He self-loads and travels well, stands quietly and unloads calmly. At competitions, he is settled in a yard or stable and is happy to leave friends to go and compete. If left alone at the float, he may wander to investigate another horse’s hay bag, so he is best managed in a yard or stable when not being supervised. He is rugged and fed morning and night. It is best to rug him before feeding, as he can be a little grumpy about being fussed with while eating. This is a simple and manageable quirk for a young owner or helpers at agistment.
Feeding and management: Joey is currently on morning and evening hard feeds with grass hay, and lucerne at competitions. He is social and happy in his own paddock with a companion in sight.
Medical history:
Joey is healthy and happy. He does not have any issues that affect performance. Please see the Owner Response Document for his full history. Joey is up to date with worming, vaccinations and dental care. Vet checks are welcomed at the buyer’s expense.
Rider suitability:
Joey is best matched to a confident Novice to Intermediate junior or young rider, or a competitive small adult wanting a genuine pony for dressage and showing, with the versatility to also enjoy eventing and jumping. His sweet spot is below 90cm. He is adaptable and has been suitable for less experienced riders in the right circumstances, but is best suited as a second pony for a junior who is ready to be competitive at Interschools or eventing at EV65–80. He loves his job and would be a great partner for a rider wanting to progress at this level.
Reason for sale: Joey is super sweet and very much loved by his family. Unfortunately, his rider has moved up to a larger horse with scope to progress up the eventing grades. Joey deserves a caring, competitive home with the time to enjoy him and compete him. He loves having a job and an adventure.
