Introduction: Duststorm De Derinnal, known as Storm, is a 6-year-old grey gelding standing approximately 14.2hh. Located in Willow Vale, Queensland, he is an established young performance pony with experience across showjumping, eventing, dressage and pony club activities. He has been owned by his current home for over two years and has been educated under the guidance of an FEI showjumping coach.
Education, skills and experience: Storm is currently competing in showjumping from 90cm to 1m and is schooling up to 1.20m at home. He has placed sixth at Regionals and has won at 80cm pony club level. In addition to his jumping experience, he has completed low-level cross country schooling and has been exposed to trail riding, beach rides, bareback riding, lunging and leading other horses. He is comfortable around children, livestock, machinery, dogs, busy roads and busy stable environments.
General demeanour under saddle: Under saddle, Storm adapts to the competence and confidence of his rider. Storm is generally unflappable and he is straightforward to manage both in and out of work. He is well exposed to a wide variety of environments and presents as a sensible young pony, although he will benefit from continued education to allow him to reach his full potential.
Current workload / fitness: Storm is currently in work and is being ridden three or more times per week while actively competing. He does not require constant riding to remain reliable and safe.
Handling: Storm is calm, safe and easy to manage. He is easy to catch, well mannered on the ground and leads calmly. He loads willingly into the float when offered food as encouragement and is easy to clip and wash. He is reliable for the farrier and good for the vet.
Behaviour: Typical of the Connemara personality, he prefers a kind request or patient negotiation rather than being forced to do something and being ridden with a whip. Please see Owners Response Document for full details.
Feeding and management: Storm is stabled at night and spends his days in a paddock with two mares. He is fed hay and hard feed and is flexible in terms of his management - he is happy in a herd, individually paddocked or a combination of stabling and turnout.
Medical history: Storm has no medical issues, injuries or management that affect his performance. He was last vaccinated in May 2025, with Hendra and 2-in-1 vaccinations booked for May 2026. His dental was completed in April 2026 and he is currently shod in front only. A vet check is welcome at the buyer’s expense. Please see Owner Response Document for full details.
Rider Suitability: Storm is best suited to an intermediate rider under regular professional instruction. He would suit a child, junior, young rider, amateur adult or mature rider, provided they have a knowledgeable support system to continue his education.
Reason for sale: Storm is offered for sale due to genuine financial reasons, with his owners reducing numbers. He is ideally suited to a knowledgeable home that will enjoy his versatility across multiple disciplines.
